After clambering up some precarious steps with a sheer drop on one side and a feeble railing the other, stopped for a rest in this restored room in the Baldwin’s tower.

The tower is a modern reconstruction (1930) of what architect Aleksandar Reshenov believed the original would look like and is based on the preserved medieval tower in the Cherven fortress in Ruse.

The medieval tower protected the resoviour and gate and is near Frenhisar Gate, the south entrance to Tsarevets. Legend has it, Latin Emperor Baldwin I died in this tower, hence it’s name "Baldwin’s Tower".
